Lamb Announces Second Recruiting Class

MACON, Ga. – Mercer head football coach Bobby Lamb announced his 2013 recruiting class on Tuesday, revealing a 32-member group set to take the field as freshmen in the fall.

After bringing in over 100 student athletes in the program's first recruiting class last year, Lamb and his staff narrowed their search in signing 32 student athletes in 2013. This second class adds depth at all positions, bolstering a lineup that will feature mainly freshmen and sophomores when the team opens up the season against Reinhardt on August 31, 2013.

"We are excited to bring our second recruiting class here at Mercer," Lamb said. "I think we have assembled a very talented and well-rounded group that will compete and push our current players for playing time this fall."

The Bears' approach in this year's recruiting cycle was to strengthen the depth at a number of positions as the team continues to build the foundation of the program. Mercer added 32 players from six different states including: Georgia (18), Tennessee (5), Florida (5), Alabama, (2), North Carolina (1), South Carolina (1).

"We had some specific needs that I think we addressed with this class," Lamb said. "I think we have added depth while creating a competition at a number of positions. Ultimately, recruiting continues to be about building the program and I certainly think this group makes us a stronger team."

In particular, Coach Lamb and his staff addressed a need in signing 12 interior linemen (seven offensive linemen and five defensive linemen).

On the defensive side of the ball, the Bears also added five linebackers, including local standouts, CJ Kleckley (Rutland) and Tyler Ward (Tattnall Square Academy).

"We have high expectations for this class, and we look forward to getting them on the field in early August," Lamb said.
